I haven't seen Kaze, though I want to. (I've seen the trailers, and was duly impressed by the vision.)
Silent Hill... well. I've only ever played the second of the games and seen the movie, but you get the impression of it. As an entity larger than its canons, we usually take it to mean an entity which catches you by your guilt, or your dark side, or the parts of yourself at odds with yourself, and then puts you into a situation where you can either defeat that part of you or be destroyed by it. As that idea, it's a powerful (and, if done right, powerfully evocative) template to use in fiction. It's fascinating to hunt down those inherent contradictions within a person, which is why we tend to cross it over with so many things ^_^.
