Very happy to find this, following a trail of Finisterre reccing your novel to Cofax who recced it to her circle. The novel sounds great and I'm looking forward to reading it, but I glommed on to this as what I had time to read today, and I enjoyed it very much!
I loved Hammond deploying Carter as necessary to meet his objective, for all that I sympathized with her discomfort with the position he was putting her in; he is their CO, and that gets lost sometimes in the fanon of a kindly patriarch, and I appreciated him in this. I also loved the realistic portrayal of Jack's issues with the risks Daniel takes; what a lot of fic jokes offhandedly about (Jack's sick of Daniel dying, Daniel's the reason Jack's turning grey), this fic unpacks and looks at in depth and very seriously (and then gives equal time to Daniel's side, of course). And I really liked the surface and underlying communication throughout.
