That wristlet always confused me, because it really didn't seem like something Jack would just... wear. And then I went back and looked at precise episodes to narrow down when it appeared (not in Unnatural Selection, there for Sight Unseen, there through Full Circle, gone in Fallen), and it just... Daniel seemed like such a good person to blame.
And yeah; Unnatural Selection always struck me as the sort of problem Daniel was on the team to fix. I mean, trapping Fifth was kinda the logistical equivalent of blowing up the Gadmeer. And no one else can really step into the role Daniel did: Jonas can't fill it because Jack doesn't accord him anything like the confidence he accorded Daniel. Sam's job is to obey orders, not question them. And Teal'c… does not really have the flexibility in his thinking that makes him come up with a bunch of different options. And you can feel the tension on it at the end of the ep.
