[Now we need one more of this series, in which post-Ascended Daniel sees the beads in Sam's clutter and starts asking questions.]
Ahaha. How did you know. *shifty*
[Huh. Actually, Jack was the one who demanded Daniel do something. I wouldn't expect Jack to let go of his guilt so easily and blame Daniel instead, but he's not particularly rational at the moment.]
He was, but I get the feeling Jack was more in the "kick Anubis' ass" camp than the "hand over powerful and potentially very deadly technology" camp. He was referring to the battle going on above them when he said "Do something or we walk," and looking back to Abyss...
O'NEILL Okay…put yourself in my shoes and me in yours.
DANIEL You'd be here for me.
O'NEILL Damn straight! I'd have busted you out, blown this rat hole to hell and made sure that son-of-a-bitch suffered!
[O'Neill rises, frustrated at Daniel and wanting to get his point across.]
DANIEL The Others would have stopped you.
O'NEILL They'd have a hell of a fight on their hands!
...he doesn't seem to really get that the Ascended can't just lightning the crap out of their enemies if they need to. (To be fair, Oma did kinda give him that impression, and they were still working on it when Shifu left the base in Maternal Instinct.)
Jack in Fallen seemed to carry a grudge about giving Anubis the Eye, and said "I only did it because you said we could whup ass with what we find in this lost city." Jack might have wanted him to cross a line and take action, but I really doubt he was looking for a way to cut a deal with Anubis.
..but yeah.
[I love the way they're both in pain and pained enough for a kind of honesty]
And I love that their brand of honesty involves never approaching the topic directly. I showed the fic to my partner, whose response was pretty much "That really is kind of a Not Conversation."
It... oh, kids.
[toward the star of Abydos
Oh, JACK.]
RANDOM bit of logical scaffolding I didn't actually expect to work as well as it did. I figured that Abydos had to be toward the north, eg Polaris, if I wanted it to be visible year-round, and then after an offhanded comment about going south on the 115, it all just fell together. I swear my brain knows more about what it's doing than I do.
