Oh, this is lovely! I love the way you draw Ellen - warm and wise and weary and bitter all at the same time, and still protective and determined. We don't get to see very much of her on the show, but her POV is very interesting to explore, and this feels right based on what we know of her backstory. She's a fascinating character, and I've always wondered how the young woman we see in the flashbacks became who we saw later.
And Neal's mother and Denise both felt real, as well - I especially love how Ellen and Denise are both strong, and determined, and the conflict between them is real but they're both sympathetic and neither one of them is wrong.
