I really liked Ellen (and the idea of Ellen), and I really wish we knew a bit more about Neal's mother. (What we're given is this wort of distant, tragic figure whose main importance is her dysfunction, which is especially annoying given the focus his father gets, even before we ever see him.) I'm glad I was able to give her some specific reality, at least.
