Fics I've had the fleeting urge to write today but wouldn't know how to start:

1) The one where the first time Sam uses the Goa'uld ribbon device it scrambles her neural pathways and leaves her without access to the linguistic portions of her brain for a few days, and the team has to find a way to bring her through it.

2) The one where something goes horribly wrong with Sha're's pregnancy, her body absorbs the Harcesis, and Amonet goes into a Goa'uld coma, leaving Sha're with the genetic memory of the Goa'uld and a position of power in Apophis' empire, and ends up becoming a fake System Lord/replacement main character for Absolute Power.

3) The one where Hammond comes in to the SGC one morning only to find that SG-1 has taken over the place and are playing some weird four-faction game of cat and mouse because one or more of them is under alien influence, but no one is sure who.

4) The one where Sam and Daniel fall through the Rift into S1-era beyondtherift and get dragged into Torchwood Chicago for three years before the Rift establishes a two-way connection back to the SGC, where only a few months have passed, and Jack O'Neill and Jack Harkness eye each other a lot and are quietly mistrustful because no one should get that close to/have that much power over their people without them knowing about it. (Okay, this one I have bits written out of in my braintics file, but come on. IT WOULD HAVE A READERSHIP OF ONE PERSON. ME.)

5) The one that comes before Scales.

[ETA] 6) The one where they discover a dialect of Goa'uld which exhibits rhyming slang and Daniel just doesn't want to explain.

You have no idea how much it amuses me that people would read crossover fic for a little-known RPG which is a massively multifandom crossover anyway. Whose main character, at least from the POV of the outer crossover, is himself from a massively multifandom crossover. It's like Crossover Inception.

(The funny thing is, I loved Torchwood's characters, setting, and concepts, but I could never, ever stand its execution. Fandom is practically the only way I can interface with it without wanting to rip out everyone's throats. I have my little quirks, apparently.)

(Poor Hammond. SG-1 acts weird enough when they're not taking over the base; sorting out who's normal and who's not under extreme circumstances would be a nightmare. Even money says he just has someone zat them all and sling them in a holding cell until things settle down. Of course, that would be the instant the base goes into alien self-destruct and only SG-1 knows how to deactivate it or something.)

I would love your #2 because I adore your Sha're, and I would cringe through every paragraph because there would be no way for redemption except Oma "made her forget" (and why would she?) and it's difficult to imagine which scenario would be worse: Teal'c killing Sha're, or Daniel killing her himself. Ow.

Is the one before Scales the what-went-wrong story? I want that one too!

Well, I suppose the real question is, just how virulent is the Goa'uld genetic memory? It's easy to see that a Goa'uld doesn't have anything else to play it off, and in a Harcesis, it's possible that the fully-formed personality of the Goa'uld genetic memory/the remembered personalities of the Goa'uld ancestors would overwhelm/subsume/replace/prevent any emergent personality from the human genome, but does it actually overwhelm an adult personality? I guess it happened with Anna, but she was artificially created and there's some question as to how mature her human personality was, and even she retained enough agency to, y'know, kill herself when things started slipping.

So it's possible that Sha're Goa'uld might keep hold of herself long enough to do some significant damage to the System Lords! And then... we have three scenarios: Daniel killing Sha're, Teal'c killing Sha're, or Sha're killing herself.

Hah. As soon as I figure out how to handle any of them! Or, you know, anyone could adopt any of them as prompts. Well, possibly except for #4. Not so much because I'm protective of my interpretation as I don't know how anyone would without reading through the entire backlog of the RP.

#3 would be a cross between "Proving Ground," "Lockdown," "Avatar," and "Foothold," and would actually be the best thing ever. I want it with a burning passion. Whose side would Walter and Siler be on? I'm assuming Janet would be on Sam's side, unless Sam did something to make her suspicious... And Teal'c would claim to be immune from whatever it was because of his symbiote, but he'd be lying.

It would be kinda hilarious if Siler was just on everybody's side, and Walter found some way to discreetly remove himself from the path of whatever nonsense was going on. Until someone less connected with said nonsense, e.g. Hammond, showed up.

Aww, poor Walter would be holed up in a closet somewhere until Hammond got there and made an announcement on the PA that he needed him. He deserves some hazard pay for all the ridiculousness that goes on under Cheyenne Mountain.

I feel like everyone in that mountain deserves copious amounts of hazard pay. For all the times the 'Gate almost blows up, or there's a foothold situation, or everyone gets strung up from the ceiling and has alien duplicates made of them, or gets vanished into some other dimension by angry alien spirits...

The SGC is probably one of those places where you need to have security clearance just to handle their payroll. ("Why does the janitor get hazard pay, Frank?" "Don't ask those questions.")

Mm, true. That's a totally different story, though- the janitor who has a REALLY bad day at work cleaning up alien slime which turns out to be toxic/hallucinogenic, and he nearly dies before Janet can come up with a cure. And then he can't complain about it to his family or his friends when he goes home because they don't have security clearance. :)

So, I've been brainstorming with a friend, who suggested that maybe there was an alien artifact that was actually a prison for semi-corporeal beings, and some of the prisoners got released when SG-1 touched it. Then, the aliens possessed them either to escape offworld or to live out their lives somewhere else on earth. So it was probably either Daniel's or Sam's fault, which means that one or both of them is possessed. And I kind of want Teal'c to be possessed too, just because it never happens to him, but I'm not sure if it can be justified. The possessed ones would probably be accusing the non-possessed ones, but one of the non-possessed ones could think that the other non-possessed one was acting suspiciously too. Like mafia.

Though it could be, depending on how it was rendered, either hilarious or heartrending to see Jack, who usually places such absolute trust in his team, aware that his entire team has been compromised and trying desperately to convince Hammond and Janet that none of them can be trusted. Just now. Because they're not really them.

You could probably justify it by having them all in a room, and then Jack hears a noise in the hall or something and goes to check it out, and that's the exact moment Daniel pokes something and the semicorporeal beings just needed a direct line-of-sight between themselves and their hosts-to-be, and can't pass through stone or whatever the place is made of. Jack hears the noise from the room he just left, steps back in, and suddenly everyone is really eager to leave.

Heck, if they needed a direct line-of-sight, he could have just been standing behind a pillar, or something.

...it would be really funny if Jack was the only one unaffected, but four escaped prisoners hitched rides back to Earth because some unlucky sap got stuck in Junior.

Okay, the biggest question then is which direction should it go in: funny or serious? Either way could work. Actually, is it okay with you if I take a stab at writing this, since I kind of want to try it both ways?

I think it would also be cool if even Jack didn't know whether or not Sam was possessed. She could have been further away from the device/half-hidden behind something when he stepped out, so it's possible that she may have not been targeted.

Haha, I would feel bad for both the prisoner and Junior! Neither of them could possibly be enjoying that!

Also, I wanted to say that this conversation is giving me all the Stargate feels, so thank you very much for being willing to discuss all of this with me!

I'd be happy if you were to write it! You probably have a more solid idea of where to go with it than I ever did. *g* And I think it could work easily as funny or serious, or as a snappy, funny coating on a gooey serious center.

And hah, yeah, having Jack unsure as to one or more of the team would add another really fun layer of trust and suspicion, on there. Especially if Sam might be able to whip up some kind of detector, but no one knows how far they should trust said detector because Sam's the only one on base who understands the science and if she's possessed, it could all be a trick.

Thanks! I've started working on an outline, and realized that the way it's going currently, it's from Jack's POV rather than Hammond's and the only ambiguous possession to him is Sam's. I'm not sure whether or not she's really possessed or not. Leaning towards yes, though, because if she is then the prisoner in her can either actually be innocent of the crime he/she was accused of or just isn't really friends with the ones inside Daniel and Teal'c.

It's going to be linear, starting with SG-1 on the planet and something weird happening. At this point, I've got SG-1 acting normally all the way through the post-op checkup and debriefing, but then afterwards Daniel tells Jack that he wants to leave the base. Jack won't let him because Dr. Frasier imposed a 24 hour quarantine on them after she heard that something strange happened, so Daniel tries to shoot Jack. Jack tells Sam, who says she doesn't believe him, and Hammond, who sends SF's to take Daniel into custody just in case. When they find Daniel, though, he looks terrified and is claiming that Jack was threatening him.

Love the detector idea! If it works, it's probably some sort of small EEG machine because they can't get SG-1 into the infirmary to do a proper one.

I'm definitely going to have to write another version from Hammond's POV where he has no idea what's going on. I need to get this one down first, though.
